Senegal's National Assembly finance committee will reconsider a revised budget it rejected last week, a step critical to securing a new International Monetary Fund program, Assembly President Ousmane Sonko said Tuesday. Finance Minister Cheikh Diba requested the second review during a parliamentary debate. Sonko said he would schedule committee proceedings and the next plenary session. Lawmakers from Sonko's Pastef party had refused to back the bill as drafted, and the finance commission rejected it last week. The amended 2026 budget cuts real GDP growth to 2.7% from roughly 5% and widens the deficit to 7.6% of GDP from 5.4%. IMF figures show Senegal's debt reached 132% of gross domestic product by the end of 2024, after the government uncovered billions of dollars in misreported borrowing by the previous administration.
