UK Tax Changes Cost Businesses £3.3bn in Compliance, Ryan Analysis Finds
British companies face a £3.3bn bill to comply with more than 140 tax policy changes introduced over the past 12 months, according to analysis by business tax specialist Ryan. The changes have raised firms' administrative costs by 21%, on top of the £15.4bn in compliance costs HMRC estimates businesses already incur. Corporate tax changes were the largest contributor at £713m, including capital allowance changes effective in January. Indirect taxes such as VAT cost £582m, and employment taxes £558m, including a two-year extension of employer National Insurance relief for veterans. The figures threaten to overshadow Chancellor John Healey's maiden Budget on Wednesday, in which he has pledged to help entrepreneurs and cut regulation by a quarter by the end of this parliament. Ryan's Tom Shave urged Healey to prioritize certainty, saying "the boldest tax policy this Budget could deliver is no change at all."
