Meta's Muse Hits 5M US Downloads in 22 Days, Outpacing ChatGPT
Meta's AI assistant Muse surpassed 5 million downloads about three weeks after launch, topping the US App Store free chart and holding the No. 1 spot for 12 consecutive days, according to Sensor Tower data. Analyst Kara Lee estimated Muse crossed 5 million downloads on Sept. 30, its 22nd day, faster than ChatGPT (56 days), Grok (103 days) and Claude (492 days). Only 23 apps have reached that total within 22 days in the US market; about 85% are mobile games such as "Fortnite," "Pokémon GO" and "Candy Crush." The only non-game apps are Disney+, HBO Max and Threads, at roughly 20 million, 18 million and 14 million downloads respectively. Muse is positioned as an "agentic AI assistant" that performs multi-step tasks for users, including web browsing, sending emails, online shopping, filling out forms and booking travel. Meta ramped up Muse advertising from Sept. 16, when daily downloads rose 73%. Over the past two weeks, Muse accounted for as much as 50% of Meta's own ad impressions, with Facebook and WhatsApp impressions declining accordingly.
