Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Monday dismissed Counterpoint Research's forecast that humanoid robot DRAM demand will rise 20-fold by 2030, calling the analysis "absurd" and saying robot RAM demand will exceed that of every other application on Earth. Musk added that Super Intelligence will require far more computing power than robots, with roughly 100% of that compute to be deployed in Deep Space Compute. Counterpoint's Oct. 26 projection, cited in a post on X by the account @wallstengine, estimates humanoid robots will drive a 20x increase in DRAM demand through 2030. Musk's rebuttal underscores the heavier memory and compute requirements of physical machines that must perceive, decide and act in real-world environments, unlike conventional AI inference workloads. Micron Technology (MU) has separately grouped humanoid robots with autonomous vehicles as "physical AI" devices, positioning both as future sources of memory demand. The company's high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and high-capacity storage products are viewed as the technical base for such applications. Commercialization timing and revenue contribution remain unproven; investors are watching Micron's fiscal 2027 first-quarter guidance and management commentary on physical AI demand.
