Trump Called Musk to Lift Ukraine Starlink Speed Cap, WSJ Reports
President Trump called SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday to demand the removal of speed restrictions on Ukraine's military Starlink service, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing U.S. officials. Service improved Thursday but had not fully returned to normal, U.S. and Ukrainian officials said. Trump objected to a roughly 100 mph (161 kph) speed cap that prevented Ukrainian attack and interceptor drones from maintaining satellite connectivity during high-speed flight, degrading strikes and air defense. Officials said Trump told aides and allies this week he wanted the limit rescinded. The White House repeated Trump's denial that he ordered the cap and said he does not know who did. SpaceX and the White House disagree on whether Musk acted on his own or at the government's request. Vice President Vance said Musk's reluctance to be drawn into a war without clear U.S. guidance is understandable. Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced an investigation Thursday, and bipartisan senators asked the Pentagon inspector general on the 15th to examine the Starshield outage.
