Anthropic Becomes SpaceX's Largest Customer, Paying About $3.1 Billion Monthly for Compute

Anthropic has become SpaceX's largest single customer, contributing more than one-third of the company's revenue in the third quarter, according to a filing SpaceX submitted last week. The AI developer pays for compute services from SpaceX's AI unit, now called Super Intelligence; the filing identified the customer only as "Customer B," and Bloomberg confirmed it is Anthropic. Anthropic's contribution surpassed that of the U.S. federal government, previously SpaceX's largest customer, underscoring concentration risk: under the contract terms, Anthropic could terminate as early as next year. The revenue stems from an agreement to use compute at SpaceX's Memphis, Tennessee, data center, supporting SpaceX's shift toward renting data-center capacity as a "neocloud" operator. The AI business turned profitable for the first time this quarter. Anthropic has agreed to pay up to $120.5 billion over a contract running through 2029—about $3.1 billion a month starting in December—and may terminate with 90 days' notice after January and March 2027.
