SpaceX Targets 10GW AI Compute Buildout by 2027 as Musk Eyes Aggressive Expansion
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Tuesday he is "fairly confident" the company can add 10 gigawatts of AI computing capacity in 2027, with a "non-zero possibility" of reaching over 20GW online by the end of next year, even as analysts question the targets. SpaceX's data centers had under 2GW online as of the September quarter. The company aims to lift that to 2.5-3GW by year-end. Musk said at the third-quarter earnings call he would be "surprised" if less than 13GW were added by the end of next year. JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth models 10GW by late 2027 and a price target of $500, assuming 2028 EPS above $24, nearly triple the FactSet consensus. Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas forecasts 8.3GW, citing power-access uncertainty, execution risk and financing strain. D.A. Davidson's Gil Luria called a threefold to sixfold capacity increase "unrealistic." Jonas estimates 2027 capex of about $278 billion, 87% for AI, up from $86 billion this year. SpaceX said new capacity pays back in under a year.
