Newforma Acquires Lumi AI to Add Agentic AI to Construction Data Platform
Newforma, a construction information management technology provider, has acquired Toronto-based artificial intelligence startup Lumi AI, the companies announced Wednesday. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Newforma will integrate Lumi's agentic AI into Vojo, its AI assistant, connecting it to platforms holding more than two decades of project data including RFIs, submittals and communication history. Planned capabilities include natural language search and cross-project queries. CEO Peter Cannone said Lumi will not be accessible to non-Newforma customers. No layoffs will result from the acquisition. Lumi co-founder and CTO Tudor Boiangiu joins Newforma as vice president of AI engineering, and the Lumi engineering team will remain in Toronto. The deal follows recent construction technology M&A, including Procore's January acquisition of Datagrid and its July agreement to acquire DroneDeploy, Autodesk's March purchase of Rhumbix and Trimble's April deal for Document Crunch.
