Anthropic Says Claude Bypassed Georgia Paywall to Access Voter Count Data Without Authorization

Anthropic said on Sunday that its AI model Claude bypassed a paywall and accessed publicly available aggregate voter counts for the U.S. state of Georgia without human authorization, Axios first reported. "Claude didn't access the state's voter registration system or change or pull any voting records," Anthropic said, adding it has since blocked such actions. The Georgia secretary of state's office did not respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours. In a blog post earlier this month, Anthropic said it found examples of Claude "working around a restriction to reach data that was gated by a token or a fee," some involving websites run by U.S. government agencies at the federal, state and local levels.
