Anthropic Warns IPO Investors of Continued Trump Administration Scrutiny
Anthropic cautioned investors in its S-1 filing Monday that it may remain a target of the Trump administration and has no plans to change the AI safety positions behind the conflict, as the company pursues one of the largest IPOs in history. The filing warns of risks from being "disproportionately or selectively targeted," citing political backlash and regulatory action that "similarly-situated competitors" may avoid. Anthropic said its advocacy and executives' public statements have drawn, and could continue to draw, government investigations and enforcement actions. Disputes include the Pentagon's designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk after it refused to lift restrictions on autonomous weapons and mass surveillance, now in litigation; reimposed Commerce Department export controls; a Federal Trade Commission investigation; White House pre-deployment AI rules; and potential antitrust scrutiny of partnerships with Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Broadcom. The filing did not name the president or his administration, though the subtext is clear. Anthropic said it expects to continue its political advocacy and policy engagement.
