Buc-ee's Settles Trademark Lawsuit Against Ohio's Mickey's Chain

Buc-ee's reached a confidential settlement on September 15 with Coles IP Holdings, owner of the Mickey's convenience store chain, resolving a trademark lawsuit filed in Ohio federal court in February 2026. The agreement covers "material terms," but financial details were not disclosed in court records. Coles IP Holdings had countersued in April, alleging unfair competition through malicious litigation and trademark infringement. Buc-ee's claimed Mickey's smiling moose logo inside a red hexagon too closely resembled its own beaver trademark, citing both animals facing right with wide eyes and smiles. Coles argued Ohio consumers "can readily distinguish a moose from a beaver." The settlement is one of two Ohio trademark suits Buc-ee's filed. The company's case against Beaver's Mini Mart in Beavercreek, filed in August 2026, remains ongoing. Buc-ee's opened its first Ohio location in April 2026.
