Aeromexico to Unveil First Batch of New US Routes Next Week, CEO Says
MEXICO CITY — Aeromexico will likely unveil a first batch of new US routes as soon as next week, CEO Andres Conesa said Tuesday, moving quickly to capitalize on Washington's decision to lift restrictions on flights from Mexico City. Speaking at the Latin American & Caribbean Air Transport Association conference, Conesa said the carrier is weighing several US destinations but is withholding names until it secures permits and airport slots. A first package of routes could launch early next year, with another potentially around mid-2027. The US Department of Transportation last week scrapped curbs that had blocked Mexican airlines from adding new service from Benito Juarez and Felipe Angeles airports. Conesa flagged San Juan, Puerto Rico as a likely returning route, though probably in the second half of 2027 due to cruise season. Aeromexico now expects to resume Caracas flights in the first quarter of 2027, later than planned, after deadly twin earthquakes snarled schedules. Conesa said airlines have raised fares to offset surging jet fuel costs.
