Anthropic Posts $80.7 Billion First-Half Loss Ahead of IPO
Anthropic recorded a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, up sharply from $13 billion a year earlier, as the Claude developer ramps up spending ahead of an initial public offering that could value it at up to $2 trillion. The company attributed much of the loss to accounting adjustments tied to its financing agreements. Revenue reached about $16.3 billion in the six months, a nearly 15-fold increase from $1.1 billion a year earlier and above its $4.6 billion in full-year 2025. Anthropic spent close to $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the period, more than all of 2025, and has signed cloud contracts totaling roughly $450 billion over seven to 10 years, including $111 billion with Google Cloud and $110 billion with Amazon Web Services. A fifth of first-half revenue came from just two customers, the company disclosed. The figures appeared in a draft prospectus obtained by the Wall Street Journal. Some investors have discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, below earlier expectations, after attending the company's investor day in San Francisco last week.
