Suffolk Construction Launches Sports Center of Excellence, Taps Ex-Nike Exec Matt Swaim to Lead

Suffolk Construction has created a national business unit dedicated to sports venues and appointed former Nike executive Matt Swaim to lead it, the Boston-based contractor announced Oct. 1. The Sports Center of Excellence will focus on stadiums, training facilities, arenas and collegiate recreation centers, Suffolk said. Swaim, an executive vice president who joined the company in 2024, brings more than 25 years of sports and entertainment project experience, including a prior role as Nike's vice president of real estate, design and construction, where he oversaw a 300-acre, 4-million-square-foot campus expansion. Will Gamba was named vice president of preconstruction for Suffolk's Sports and Entertainment sector, managing preconstruction from design through the guaranteed maximum price phase. The company cited increasingly complex venues, tighter timelines and year-round use as drivers of the new division.
