Matiks Raises $10M Pre-Series A Led by General Catalyst to Scale Math Gaming Platform

India-based gaming startup Matiks said Monday it raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding led by General Catalyst, with participation from entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures. The round brings total funding to more than $13.5 million. The company's namesake app, which offers math, logic, puzzle and memory games, grew daily users from 22,000 earlier in the year to over 300,000 by September, when it recorded 2.2 million monthly active users. Matiks began testing a subscription this month and also generates revenue from in-game purchases. Matiks, founded by college friends Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur, employs 41 full-time staff. It plans to use the funding to expand its experimental user-generated game platform, Jelo, into new markets and add localization for the U.S., South Korea and Japan, where it has seen traction beyond its core Indian user base.
