Privacy-Focused AI Assistant Ollie Shuts Down November 6 as Competition Intensifies

Ollie, a privacy-focused AI assistant startup, will shut down on November 6, co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon announced Friday on X. The company cited an inability to stand out, grow, and raise capital amid competition from Muse, Instinct, and other entrants in the text-based AI assistant market. Ollie raised a $7.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures, discussed with TechCrunch in September, and operated on a subscription model. The assistant connected to users' email and calendar and offered appointment booking, meal planning, and bill payment tools, with household budgeting planned. It was among the first mainstream apps to achieve SOC 2 privacy compliance through an independent audit. Lennon said the pressures of the burgeoning AI industry took their toll. "We got close, but ultimately couldn't keep up," he said. Customers will receive instructions on data export and refunds in the coming days.
