Shionogi to Acquire IntraBio for $2B, Expanding Rare Disease Portfolio
Shionogi announced Monday it will acquire Texas-based IntraBio for $2 billion in cash, gaining Aqneursa, a drug approved for two inherited neurological disorders. The deal makes IntraBio a wholly owned subsidiary of Shionogi's New Jersey-based U.S. division. Aqneursa treats Niemann-Pick disease type C and Ataxia-Telangiectasia by combating toxic lipid buildup. IntraBio reported $68 million in sales for 2025. Shionogi will review the transaction's impact on its current fiscal year outlook, ending March 2027. CEO Isao Teshirogi said the acquisition deepens the company's commitment to rare disease communities following its 2025 purchase of ALS drug Radicava. The deal bolsters Shionogi's commercial-stage rare disease portfolio, which includes an experimental Fragile X syndrome treatment in Phase 3 trials.
