Oura Sues Ultrahuman Again, Seeks U.S. Ban on Ring Pro Over Patent Infringement

Oura has filed a new patent infringement lawsuit against Indian rival Ultrahuman, seeking a permanent injunction to block U.S. sales of its Ring Pro just months after the redesigned device helped the Bengaluru-based startup re-enter the American market. The complaint was filed Thursday in a federal court in Texas. Oura alleges the Ring Pro infringes two patents covering ring design and internal components, including the battery and sensors. The suit, which also names Texas-based manufacturer SVTronics as a defendant, seeks monetary damages and an injunction. One patent, 12,769,363, was issued to Oura on October 20, two days before the filing. The action follows a U.S. Customs and Border Protection ruling in March that cleared the Ring Pro for import, after an earlier ban on Ultrahuman's Ring Air stemming from an August ITC ruling. Oura has pursued similar claims against Samsung, RingConn, Circular, and Zepp Health. IDC expects global smart-ring shipments to rise 12.8% this year to 4.9 million units.
