Trump Says He Won't Harm Bombardier, Shares Rise 2.1%
President Donald Trump said late Monday he does not plan to hurt Canadian jet maker Bombardier, more than a month after threatening to bar the company from the U.S. market. Bombardier shares rose 2.1% Tuesday following the comments. Speaking in Wichita, Kansas, where Bombardier employs 1,500 workers, Trump said he would help the company because it has a presence in the state. "We're not hurting them if they're in Kansas. So we'll take care of those people and the jobs," he said. His September threats prompted calls to the White House from Kansas lawmakers, including Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who faces a tough re-election bid. Bombardier has 3,500 U.S. employees, more than 40% of them in Wichita. Last week the company said it was investing another $50 million in its Wichita operations. The White House and Bombardier did not immediately comment. The administration took no action against Bombardier last month when it banned a range of Canadian goods effective Sept. 29.
