Anthropic Files S-1 for IPO, Discloses $16.3 Billion Revenue and $80.7 Billion Net Loss
Anthropic submitted S-1 paperwork Monday for a planned initial public offering, disclosing soaring revenue alongside steep costs while warning of artificial intelligence's risks to humanity. Net losses reached $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, while revenue rose to about $16.3 billion over the same period, the filing showed. The Wall Street Journal reported the IPO could raise as much as $100 billion, valuing the Claude maker at upwards of $1.5 trillion, citing people familiar with the matter. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May. In the filing, Anthropic said AI could bring "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" absent proper safeguards, and warned that its positions on regulation could invite political backlash or disproportionate regulatory action. NYU emeritus professor Gary Marcus accused the company of "skirting the truth" by omitting third-quarter figures, noting Anthropic had reportedly told investors Q3 revenue hit $16.8 billion, up from $11.6 billion in Q2.
