Walter, Kushner Finalize Terms on Record $12.5 Billion Lakers Sale Pending NBA Approval

Lakers owner Mark Walter and Thrive Capital's Josh Kushner have agreed on the outstanding terms of a $12.5 billion sale of the NBA team, a league record, according to people familiar with the matter. The deal still requires signatures and review by the NBA's Board of Governors before becoming official. Kushner, a venture capitalist and brother of Jared Kushner, met Walter at his Florida home to finalize terms and has assured Walter he has funds to close. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger is partnering with Kushner on the transaction. Walter bought a majority stake from the Buss family in 2025 at a $10 billion valuation and agreed to sell less than a year after becoming owner. He has been at the center of a federal loan investigation, and his holding company TWG Global is in talks with investors to pay down insurer loans scrutinized by the Justice Department.
