Nvidia and the German government agreed on a state-backed artificial intelligence cooperation at a Berlin investment summit, with the federal government set to contribute a nine-figure euro sum, according to Handelsblatt. Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the summit produced investment commitments totaling €800 billion through 2028, with some 200 company leaders attending. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, whose company says it invested almost $1 billion in Germany in 2025, has argued that data should be treated as a national resource rather than exported. Around a dozen German companies are expected to join the project, including Siemens, Audi and Freiburg-based AI startup Black Forest Labs. Separately, Amazon plans to invest about €16 billion in Germany in 2027, a third of it to expand data centers for its cloud unit AWS, mainly in the Frankfurt area, where AWS already employs roughly 3,000 people. The IMF now expects German growth of 1.3% in 2026, up from a prior 0.7% forecast.
