NVIDIA Partners With Six Suppliers to Expand AI Manufacturing Capacity; Shares Rise 1.87% Pre-Market
NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) announced Wednesday it is working with six supply chain partners to expand global manufacturing capacity for substrates, advanced packaging, semiconductor testing and optical engines, aiming to meet rising demand for AI infrastructure. Shares rose 405 cents, or 1.87%, to $220.52 in pre-market Nasdaq trading. The partners are Amkor Technology, IBIDEN, King Yuan Electronics (KYEC), Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) and Unimicron Technology. IBIDEN's expanded Ono plant in Japan is expected to begin ramping capacity in the first quarter of 2028, while Unimicron's Taiwan expansion starts adding capacity in the second quarter of 2027 and reaches full capacity by mid-2028. NVIDIA and Amkor plan to increase interposer wafer capacity in South Korea by more than 300% by the end of 2028. A $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance from NVIDIA to KYEC will support new U.S. testing facilities, with high-volume production targeted for April 2027. NVIDIA and SPIL are targeting a 15x increase in optical engine capacity in Taiwan by mid-2027.
