ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent Order Over 3 Million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 GPUs Worth $35 Billion
ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have collectively ordered more than 3 million of Nvidia's RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards, a deal valued at over $35 billion at list prices, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing sources. Nvidia has told customers it cannot guarantee full delivery as demand far exceeds planned production. The cards are priced at about $11,400 each. Total Chinese customer orders exceed 6 million units, but Nvidia has told partners it may produce at most 3 million globally in 2027, with some partners told they may receive only 5% to 10% of requested volumes. The RTX PRO 5500 is a workstation card that complies with U.S. export rules, making it one of the few high-performance options still available to Chinese buyers. The orders are intended mainly for AI inference rather than model training. Nvidia's priority allocation of TSMC capacity to its Rubin data-center platform from 2027 is squeezing supply. Nvidia said it expects initial samples in December and commercial deliveries in the first quarter of 2027. Nvidia, ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent and TSMC did not respond to requests for comment.
