Trump Threatens New Iran Strikes; Oil Surges on Middle East Supply Fears
President Trump said Friday the U.S. could launch another military operation against Iran, urging Tehran to accept a negotiated settlement. Speaking at a rally in Fort Myers, Florida, he referenced "Operation Epic Fury," the codename for U.S. combat operations against Iran, saying: "We might do a little Epic Fury again, or they'll agree." He did not specify scale, timing or targets. The remarks contrast with his statement earlier this month that the U.S. would not attack Iran before the midterm elections. The war, which began in late February, remains unresolved despite a ceasefire arrangement and a memorandum of understanding on a peace deal. Rising fuel prices have become a midterm pressure point. Brent crude futures rose $3.55, or 3.14%, to settle at $116.72 a barrel, the highest close since April 29. West Texas Intermediate gained $3.80, or 3.8%, to $103.27. For the week, Brent rose 6% and WTI 2.3%, driven by Houthi attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure and a tanker spill off the UAE.
