Oura (OURA) has launched its first clinical trial, a multi-year study with UC San Diego Health called SMART-BMI, to examine how smart ring data relate to outcomes in patients receiving GLP-1 medications or undergoing bariatric surgery for obesity. The company's shares were trading at $48.76, up 0.12%. The trial will track sleep, heart rate and physical activity to assess their relationship with weight loss, changes in HbA1c and treatment persistence, aiming to provide insight into patient health between medical visits. Oura said its Office of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, established over the past year under Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ricky Bloomfield, is leading the effort. In June 2026, the company partnered with Eli Lilly's (LLY) LillyDirect platform to offer support tools and savings options for users of prescribed GLP-1 therapies. Oura noted its ring is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor or prevent medical conditions.
