Toronto Home Sales Drop 5.2% in September, Steepest Fall Since February
Greater Toronto Area home sales fell 5.2% month-over-month on a seasonally adjusted basis in September to 5,174 units, the steepest decline since February and the second consecutive monthly drop, Toronto Regional Real Estate Board data showed on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The board's home price index slipped 0.5% month-over-month after seasonal adjustment to C$924,600 ($648,296). Year-over-year, sales fell 9% and new listings declined 14.4%, while the price index was down 4.7%. The board attributed the slowdown to economic uncertainty holding back buyers, despite substantial pent-up demand. Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem has said policymakers are prepared to raise borrowing costs multiple times if inflation remains too high.
