U.S. major indexes turned positive Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbing nearly 610 points, or about 1.2%, as stronger-than-expected corporate earnings, a pullback in oil prices and falling Treasury yields offset lingering doubts over the durability of the AI investment boom. 3M rose more than 4% after beating profit estimates and raising full-year guidance, while Northrop Grumman gained 6% and RTX added 1% on earnings beats. The Nasdaq Composite rose about 0.4%, the S&P 500 gained 0.6% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index added 0.8%, with TSMC's ADR up 1.5%. WTI crude fell more than 1% to about $102 a barrel and Brent dropped over 2% to about $106, reversing earlier gains as traders monitored Middle East developments. AI-linked shares recovered intraday after an early slide tied to debt and demand concerns; Micron, Intel and Sandisk each rose about 1%, while Super Micro advanced 1%, AMD gained over 1% and CoreWeave climbed more than 2%.
