Cash App Begins $15M Settlement Payouts Over 2021 Data Breach

Cash App has begun distributing payments from a $15 million settlement to users who filed claims over a December 2021 data breach that exposed the personal information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers. Payments to claimants who filed before the Nov. 18, 2024, deadline are expected to go out this month, according to the settlement website. Parent company Block and Cash App agreed to the settlement in March 2024 and admitted no violations of law. Users who had unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers between Aug. 23, 2018, and Aug. 20, 2024, were eligible to seek reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses of up to $2,500, including up to three hours of lost time at $25 per hour.
