Singapore Stocks Poised for Further Losses as Wall Street Tech Selloff Weighs on Asian Open
Singapore's Straits Times Index may extend losses Friday after slipping 1.88 points, or 0.03 percent, to close at 5,396.03 on Thursday, holding just below the 5,400 mark. The index traded between 5,394.71 and 5,439.50 during the session, weighed by technology stocks while healthcare gained and financials were mixed. The negative lead from Wall Street points to a soft open across Asian bourses. The NASDAQ tumbled 365.13 points, or 1.38 percent, to 26,184.72 as technology shares came under renewed pressure, while the Dow shed 132.54 points, or 0.25 percent, to 52,342.56 and the S&P 500 fell 23.59 points, or 0.30 percent, to 7,720.39. Alphabet (GOOGL) plunged 13.2 percent after weaker-than-expected third-quarter revenue and negative free cash flow. U.S. consumer prices rose in line with estimates in September. December WTI crude fell $0.79, or 0.77 percent, to $101.99 a barrel. Singapore posts third-quarter unemployment data later Friday; the prior rate was 1.9 percent.
