Sulzer Signs Five-Year Alliance With Venezuela's PDVSA to Modernize Oil Infrastructure
Swiss engineering firm Sulzer has signed a five-year strategic alliance agreement with Venezuela's state-owned PDVSA, positioning itself to supply equipment and services across the country's oil and gas infrastructure. The companies disclosed no financial value and announced no guaranteed orders. The framework covers potential orders across upstream production, pipelines, refining and fuel distribution. Sulzer, which has operated in Venezuela for decades, already supplies technologies and equipment services to several parts of PDVSA's operations. The deal follows the U.S. Treasury's September update of authorizations covering equipment, technology and services supplies to Venezuela's energy sector after the easing of U.S. sanctions in 2026. SLB announced a similar cooperation agreement in June focused on digital technologies and production improvements. Venezuela holds more than 300 billion barrels of reserves, among the world's largest, concentrated in the Orinoco Belt and Lake Maracaibo. Much of it is heavy and extra-heavy crude requiring specialized production and processing technology. Executive Chairwoman Suzanne Thoma said Sulzer's longstanding presence provides an understanding of the country's industrial requirements.
