60 Degrees Pharmaceuticals Inc. (SXTP) announced a sponsored research agreement with the University of Southern Mississippi to evaluate castanospermine, an iminosugar derived from the Australian chestnut, in nonclinical models of alpha-gal syndrome. Shares rose 10.69% to $0.81. Alpha-gal syndrome is a tick-borne allergy that can trigger severe reactions to mammalian meat and other alpha-gal-containing products. No FDA-approved treatments exist, and current management focuses on avoiding triggers. Under the agreement, 60 Degrees will fund the research and retain an option to commercialize any resulting intellectual property. The company said it will assess potential botanical approval pathways for a castanospermine-containing product, with USM study findings shaping future development plans. SXTP has traded between $0.58 and $8.62 over the past year.
