Target Revamps $3 Billion Threshold Brand in $1 Billion Turnaround
Target has overhauled its largest home goods private label, Threshold, under CEO Michael Fiddelke, lowering prices on select items and adding more than 800 new products. The brand generates nearly $3 billion in annual sales, the retailer said Tuesday. The refresh includes a $20 price cut on certain comforters and upgraded assortments such as gauze and textured cotton bedding, refreshed barware and serveware, and decor with "elevated finishes." In-store presentation now shows how complementary items work together, reflecting Target research that shoppers often mix styles. The project is part of a $1 billion, multiyear turnaround. Target has already touted Threshold price cuts, part of roughly 10,000 reductions across the store, extending a series of price decreases launched in March as consumers grow more budget-conscious. Jefferies analysts led by Corey Tarlowe said in a Sept. 25 research note that promotions and merchandising improvements appear to be drawing shopper attention, adding that investors may be underestimating the scale of TGT's merchandising transformation.
