Tesla, Turo Launch Certified FSD Rental Program as Tesla Shares Rise 4%
Tesla (TSLA) and peer-to-peer car-sharing platform Turo launched the industry's first certified Full Self-Driving rental experience, letting drivers try the software for several days before buying a vehicle. Tesla shares rose 4% Tuesday to close at $407.46, while the S&P 500 gained 0.6% and the Dow closed flat. Turo expects $3.3 billion in gross bookings and $12 billion in revenue this year. CEO Andre Haddad said 55% of Americans are interested in using autonomous technology while traveling, rising to 71% among Gen Z. Tesla reported 1.74 million active FSD users at the end of the third quarter, up 67% year over year, with about 75% of buyers opting for the $99 monthly subscription. FSD underpins Tesla's new Robotaxi service, which investors expect to drive the next phase of profit growth. The gain was Tesla's second straight session of strong gains; on Monday, Barclays analyst Dan Levy upgraded the stock to Buy from Hold, citing potential Robotaxi acceleration, and shares rose 5.2%.
