Tesla to Show Cybercab in Europe for First Time at Paris Auto Show
Tesla (TSLA-US) will display its Cybercab self-driving taxi in Europe for the first time at the Paris Auto Show opening Oct. 12, though visitors will not be allowed to ride in it. The vehicle, which has no steering wheel or pedals, is central to CEO Elon Musk's push to transform Tesla into an AI product company. Show director Serge Gachot said Tuesday that attendees can instead test-drive six other Tesla vehicles equipped with the company's Full Self-Driving system. Musk has positioned the Cybercab as the core of a future robotaxi business aimed at serving most of the United States, promising eventual deployment of thousands of vehicles. The show will also feature European automakers' turnaround strategies. Stellantis (STLA-US) plans to display more than 60 vehicles across eight brands under CEO Antonio Filosa. Renault will show about 50 cars and concepts, including a heavily revised electric Dacia Spring assembled in Europe. BYD (01211-HK), XPeng (XPEV-US), and Volkswagen will also exhibit. BMW withdrew earlier this year amid a profit warning and cost cuts under new CEO Milan Nedeljkovic.
