Whirlpool Swings to Q3 Loss, Cuts 2026 Outlook on Weak Sales and Restructuring Costs
Whirlpool Corp. (WHR) reported a third-quarter net loss of $249 million, or $3.80 per share, reversing a year-earlier profit of $73 million, or $1.29 per share, and lowered its full-year earnings outlook. Net sales fell 8.8% to $3.68 billion. The quarter's ongoing loss per share was $0.21, versus earnings of $2.09 a year earlier, as restructuring costs and an impairment charge weighed on results. For 2026, Whirlpool now projects a GAAP loss of $4.95 per share and an ongoing loss of $1.30 per share, down from prior guidance of GAAP earnings of $2.25 to $2.75 and ongoing earnings of $2.50 to $3.00. Net sales are expected at about $14.5 billion, below the prior $15 billion forecast, with free cash flow near $300 million. CEO Marc Bitzer said cost cuts and pricing drove consecutive margin progress but recovery is slower than expected.
